The Art of Mary Jane Cash Hyde Fund Raiser
Cashy went into emergency open brain surgery the following day to try and remove the tumor. The surgeons decided to remove only 10% of the tumor for biopsy because it had grown around his optic nerves. After the surgery Cashy lost his eyesight from the pressure of the tumor on his optic nerves.
Oncologist's diagnosed Cashy with a malignant and aggressive cancer classified as a PNET brain tumor. PNET's are part of the Blue Cell Cancer group that are aggressive and have a high fatality rate. The Oncologist recommended that Cashy receive 3 cycles of chemotherapy followed by 3 cycles of high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue. This protocol is aggressive and will take 6 to 8 months to complete. We were told that we needed to do the treatment at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, and that Cashy would have to stay in the hospital for weeks at a time.
We returned home to Missoula for 6 days to pack some basic belongings and prepare ourselves for the battle of a lifetime! There are no words to describe watching chemotherapy take effect on someone you love. Chemotherapy kills cancer cells very aggressively unfortunately it kills healthy cells the same. If cancer has ever touched your life or the life of someone you know, I don't have to tell you how devastating it is.
From the day Cashy's tumor was discovered he has marveled the medical profession and defied odds countless times. Cashy is considered a "miracle" to thousands of people around the world and many doctors and nurses. Along the way Cashy regained his vision, survived seizures, and many PICU emergencies. There were many ups and downs along the way but each day Cashy fights with a smile earning him the title "Boy Of Steel". I bet we can find 10,000 people that will pray for Cashy Michael Hyde.
A Facebook page was created when Cashy was first diagnosed with Cancer. It was very comforting to read the prayers and comments from friends, family members, and complete strangers that have never met Cashy or our family. We appreciate everyone that commented and prayed for Cashy and our family. Cashy's Facebook page has gained over 14,000 people that have laughed, cried, and prayed with us during this amazing journey.
Without the fundraisers and donations this battle would not have been possible. The financial support we received from all across Montana, and other states thanks to Cashy's Facebook friends. We were able to leave work for 9 months and concentrate on helping Cashy fight cancer as a family. We were able to be at the hospital 24 hours a day and Cashy never had to be alone. We are very thankful for all that everyone has done.
Cancer Fears Me!
While waiting in the PICU waiting room for Cashy after brain surgery I met a volunteer who brings his dog to visit the children and families. As I was petting the dog I noticed the badge on his bandanna said "CANCER FEARS ME!" I felt empowered at that moment and decided that my destiny was to make Cancer Fear Me!

The Cannabis plant from which the cannabis drug is derived has a long history of medicinal use with evidence dating back to 2,737 BC.
Cashy is the youngest Medical Cannabis patient in the United States. We were able to replace seven scary and toxic drugs that were given to Cash as a nausea cocktail around the clock with 0.3 milliliters of Cannabis Oil.
At the time we decided to give Cash this safe and therapeutic medicine. He was so sick that he hadn't eaten in over 40 days and was living on TPN and Lipids as intravenous nutrition. He vomited 8-10 times a day and could barely lift his head off the pillow. Within two weeks of receiving the Cannabis Oil Cash was eating, laughing, and had a quality of life we hadn't seen in months.
Cash survived septic shock, stroke, pulmonary hemorrhage, pulmonary hypertension, all side effects of the chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants he had received. We were told after his 4th cardiac arrest episode he would have brain damage, organ failure and that he would ultimately die.
However, he did not die, and it was because of the cannabinoid therapeutics that he was receiving and their known anti-oxidant and neuro-protectant capabilities. Many say cannabis has anti-tumor effects and could possibly be the cure to cancer.
